Combo 1 & 2 sounds great to me too Rebecca...
Also, we talked about a close relative to option 2 this summer--- let
community members propose and organize calls on any topic, whenever, and
share / promote a weekly schedule of calls through a shared calendar, blog,
and this listserv once a week or even once a month?
