[p2pu-dev] synchronous communication platforms?

Hi,
Does Lernanta recommend anything in particular for synchronous 
over-the-web communication?  Reading this:
http://www.elearnspace.org/blog/2011/10/04/why-do-synchronous-web-tools-suck/
reminded me of the disappointing experiences we had with Software 
Carpentry a couple of years back, and if there's something better out 
there that Lernanta users could rely on, pointers/integration would be 
wonderful.
