[p2pu-dev] FWD: Accessing Member Email Addresses

I would urge some caution in how the member emails are used outside the p2pu
platform. If you are subscribing or inviting people to an external group for
communications you should give careful consideration to how you set up the
group's access. I selected the following settings for the Google Groups I
created to protect member's email addresses from those not in the course:
*Who can view? *
Only members can view group content
*Directory listing: *
Do not list this group
*Who can join?*
People can request an invitation to join
*Who can create and edit pages? *
Members only (Google Disabled this feature in Janurary)
*Who can upload files? *
Members only (Google Disabled this feature in Janurary)
*Who can post messages? *
Members only; Allow posting from the web
*Who can invite new members? *
No moderation - messages are delivered directly
While some may think keeping the group closed is not in the spirit
of unbridled peer learning, I think this arrangement better protects the
members from email spamming and gives a greater value to being a member of
the course rather than just randomly dropping in and eavesdropping.
Hopefully features in the new platform will obviate having to set up this
type of external communications.
