It would not be too hard (a dozen lines of jQuery) to come up scheme such as
surrounding URLs with curly braces to specially identify these URLs as
pointing to embedable content and then have a bookmarklet toggle between (a)
the default of just displaying the URL inline with <a> which when click on
would link off to a new page, and (b) embedding an iframe with a src
specificed by the URL. See the reference to {
http://creativecommons.blip.tv/file/3422954/} in the first paragraph of this
content page:

http://new.p2pu.org/en-US/courses/lernanatron/content/sdfasdfasd/
<%20http://new.p2pu.org/en-US/courses/lernanatron/content/sdfasdfasd/%20>

Hover over the link and look at the title which encodes the height and width
of the iframe. In a 5 minute mockup this would be the easiest way to convey
the height and width meta data for the <iframe> as the CKEditor strips all
other attributes you try to add to a link.

It would be outrageous to do this for production but as a demo of Joe's
toggle idea it will only take a few minutes to do.
