Hey Webcrafters - The assessment and badge pilot is still going for the next
couple weeks and you still have a chance to participate:
http://badges.p2pu.org

*1) Try for a badge*
There are a number of assessments in there including Javascript
Basic<http://badges.p2pu.org/questions/1/javascript-basic-badge-challenge>
(also
in Spanish <http://badges.p2pu.org/questions/21/reto-de-javascript-basico>!)
and
Expert<http://badges.p2pu.org/questions/2/javascript-expert-badge-challenge>,
PHP Basic <http://badges.p2pu.org/questions/3/php-basic-badge-challenge> and
Expert <http://badges.p2pu.org/questions/4/php-expert-badge-challenge>,
Accessibility
Foundations<http://badges.p2pu.org/questions/5/accessibility-foundation-badge-challenge>and
Expert<http://badges.p2pu.org/questions/6/accessibility-expert-badge-challenge>and
Open
Source Contributor<http://badges.p2pu.org/questions/7/open-source-contributor-badge-challenge>.
If you think you have one or more of these skills, you can submit work for
these assessments, and earn the associated Mozilla-endorsed badge which you
can use to demonstrate your skill set to the Webcraft and P2PU communities,
Mozilla and other key stakeholders like other potential employers.

*2) Assess existing work*
This is a peer-driven learning community, so assessments are also peer
driven. All of the Basic/Foundation badges are peer assessed - so that means
that you can go in and look at submitted work, review it against the rubric
and vote yes/no and leave feedback for the submitter. Once the submission
received 3 yes votes, the submitter will earn the badge. But it is important
to have an active community of assessors in there so help out where you
can.

**Note, the Expert-level badges, those are "guru" or "has-the-badge"
assessed, so once you earn the JS Expert badge, for example, you can assess
future submissions for that badge*

*3) Give badges to peers*
There are a number of badges that you can just give peers directly. These
badges include: Team Player
<http://badges.p2pu.org/badges/41/team-player>, Peer
Mentor <http://badges.p2pu.org/badges/40/peer-mentor>, Community
Builder<http://badges.p2pu.org/badges/44/community-builder>,
Innovator <http://badges.p2pu.org/badges/42/innovator> and
Communicator<http://badges.p2pu.org/badges/43/communicator>.
With the skill badges, these peer-issued, community badges help create a
more complete picture of each learner, and these skills are often those that
employers are looking for (and currently have little to no way of knowing
about). To give one of these badges to a peer, go to
http://badges.p2pu.org/badges/, click on the appropriate SAPPHIRE badge and
fill out the form with the peer username and a comment explaining why they
deserve the badge.

**Note: peers must sign into the badge environment at least once with their
P2PU account to show up in the peer badge form, so if you don't see them in
there, send them a quick side note to encourage them to log into the badge
environment so that you can issue them a badge. *

*4) Suggest and vote on badges you would like to see in the next phase of
the pilot* (in the April SoW courses).

Help us plan for the next iteration of badges for School of Webcraft! We are
aiming to have a comprehensive set of assessments and badges within 2011 so
it will be helpful to understand the skills, value and qualities that are
important to the webcraft community. Suggest ideas and vote up/down
suggestions.

*5) Give us feedback*
We are always open and appreciative of feedback and insights. You can use
this mailing list to give us feedback on the assessments and badges.

Thanks,
Erin
