I agree that this is quite an important feature that has been on our list for a long time. I'm participating in a couple groups and definitely feel the need for reply by email.
--
contact info:
http://www.johndbritton.com
I am curious about the priority of e-mail integration, it's something we talked about even with the old system, and which was supposed to be one of the things that would be much easier to do with the new system. If you look at this bug, it's been pushed from release 0.3 to 1.5, and I don't know if it might continue to be pushed. Of course a lot of the stuff being worked on is important, but I think this can really make a huge difference to how courses are run, how students engage with courses etc.

Karen - I understand why you'd prefer to communicate by email with your participants currently. The current messaging system is can be cumbersome. This reinforces our need to really focus on making communication within P2PU users significantly easier. I know this is on the development radar - but not 100% sure where it falls on the priority timeline.

Vanessa - I vibe with your thinking behind this and it reflects the advice we imparted in the old orientation. Organizers were encouraged to create a stronger sign up process that collected information on learners' personal motivations for signing up for the course, their preferred learning style and their familiarity with certain tools the course would possibly use for communication/technical savvy. I can certainly agree that this is currently missing from the sign up process.
